Magazine Proposal

The genre of my music magazine is going to be a dance and popular music magazine. I have chosen these two genres because I feel that they appeal most to people within my target age range and that more people would buy a magazine of this type. In the magazine I will have a front cover, a contents page and a 2 page spread with a big music artist of the time. My two page spread will be an interview with the big music artist that will provide the reader with an insight to there life and music but will also include images that think with the text to draw in the customers attention.

Any images I include in my magazine will be taken by me to avoid copy write etc. For my magazine I will need images of an artist that would appeal to my target audience, the ideas I currently have is taking am image of my friend who had a DJ set etc while he is performing at a party, if I can not get this I intend to use my younger sister and take images of her posing as if she was a big artist on a photo shoot. Other images I may want is a group of teenagers enjoying the music which I would take of my friend and also of other artists on stage which I could get of my phone through previous concerts I have been to.

My target audience would be working class teenagers aged between 13-25 as that the age group I have questioned but also because that is what I fall into and I believe that I have a good knowledge of what this target audience would expect from a music magazine. One major factor of my target audience is that they enjoy listening to dance and popular music because that is the kind of magazine genre I am making, I would also like to appeal to both male and female customers but with a primary target audience of female. My secondary target audience would be males because this creates a wider mass market. They would both fit into the audience code D. This group of people is usually unemployed students and working class students.

My magazine will be original because I believe there is a large gap I the market currently for my genre of magazine and because I will be using original images and artists that will make it different to current magazines. The people in my magazine will be represented as modern and current, they will be wearing current fashions which will be relatable to my target audience because they may wear the same styles of clothes etc.

My main feature article will be a double page spread about an up and coming DJ that has just came into the charts. It will feature an interview with him asking questions about his music career, how his life has changed and other things along the same lines, it will also include an exclusive for my magazine only to intrigue my target audience into buying the magazine. I will ensure that it looks professional by using typical magazine connotations such as an image of the main artist overlapping the heading and try to avoid using word art etc.

Before I make my magazine I will carry out research into current magazines in the market, make a questionnaire for my target audience and look at current connotations of magazines such as pull quotes etc. My magazine will be called ‘EVOLUTION’ because I believe it fits in with how my main artists have crawled up the charts and how music is evolving. I also choose this name because I want my music magazine to be new and current so the name fits in with how the market and industry is evolving and growing.
